Moot Court and Mediation Competition 2017: Press release of Russian State University of Justice

On 6 – 9 November 2017 Russian State University of Justice together with the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation and in partnership with FBK Legal organized and hosted Russian State University of Justice Moot Court and Mediation Competition on Relevant Problems of International Law. This was the first Russian international moot court of the kind. The topic of the moot was EDR (efficient dispute resolution) of corporate disputes with a foreign element. The moot took place in Moscow and was held in English.

RSUJ Moot Court and Mediation Competition is a unique and unparalleled Russian educational project. Firstly, this is the only international moot court which incorporates two essential paradigms of dispute resolution: contentious work through adversarial litigation and out-of-court settlement through mediation. Secondly, this is the first international moot court for law students dedicated to resolution of corporate disputes with a foreign element. Thirdly, the moot offers unrivalled open and transparent system of assessment for written and oral performance of the teams, which was developed by experts from Russian State University of Justice.

More than 50 students from Russia and abroad participated in RSUJ Moot Court and Mediation Competition 2017. Their memoranda and oral performance in litigation and mediation sessions were assessed by leading lawyers and certified mediators from FBK Legal (FBK Grant Thornton Group), Ernst & Young Global Limited Group, Vegas Lex, Tomashevskaya & Partners, Moscow State University Scientific and Educational Center Law and Business, Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, International Mediation Institute, Swiss law firm Secretan Troyanov Shaer. CIS Arbitration Forum is an information partner of the event.

The winning team was awarded the main prize: 5 personal certificates for legal education at Harvard University Law School. In 2017 the team from Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL) won the first place in the competition. A lot of participants from other teams were offered traineeships with FBL Legal and other law firms. The winners and awardees in the other nominations received valuable prizes provided by the organizers and partners of the moot.

RSUJ Moot Court and Mediation Competition was highly appraised by the participants, arbitrators, and partners. A unique and unparalleled event was organized and held on international level within a short time, gathering together the best students from universities of Russia, Belarus, Turkey and Spain. RSUJ Moot Court and Mediation Competition is not only the success of Russian State University of Justice and its partners, it is a success of Russia and Russian legal education on an international scale.

Russian State University of Justice became the first Russian university to organize and to host an international moot court in English. We are proud to be the first international moot to raise the issue of resolution of corporate disputes with a foreign element. We are also proud to offer the system of assessment based on justice and absolute transparency. We hope that in the future RSUJ Moot Court and Mediation Competition will become the leading international moot on efficient resolution of corporate disputed both in Russia and worldwide, and we will spare no effort to accomplish this goal.

Пресс-релиз конкурса по судебному разбирательству и  медиации 2017 Российского государственного университета правосудия

Российский государственный университет правосудия совместно с Верховным Судом Российской Федерации и в партнёрстве с компанией «ФБК Право» провели 6 – 9 ноября 2017 года первый в России международный студенческий конкурс по актуальным проблемам международного права “Russian State University of Justice Moot Court and Mediation Competition“. Темой конкурса стало эффективное разрешение корпоративных споров, осложнённых международным элементом. Конкурс состоялся в Москве и проводился на английском языке.

RSUJ Moot Court and Mediation Competition является уникальным российским образовательным проектом, не имеющим аналогов в мире. Во-первых, это единственная международная модель разрешения споров, объединяющая судебный и внесудебный способы: классический гражданский процесс и альтернативное разрешение спора посредством медиации. Во-вторых, это первый международный студенческий конкурс, освещающий актуальную тематику корпоративных споров, осложнённых иностранным элементом. В-третьих, конкурс отличает беспрецедентно прозрачная и открытая система оценки письменных работ и выступлений команд, разработанная экспертами Российского государственного университета правосудия.

В 2017 году в конкурсе RSUJ Moot Court and Mediation Competition приняли участие более 50 студентов из России и стран зарубежья. В оценке письменных работ и выступлений участников на моделях гражданского процесса и медиации были задействованы ведущие юристы и сертифицированные медиаторы из «ФБК Право» (группа FBK Grant Thornton), «EY» (группа Ernst & Young Global Limited), «Vegas Lex», «Tomashevskaya & Partners», научно-образовательного центра «Право и бизнес» Московского государственного университета, Центра арбитража и посредничества Торгово-промышленной палаты Российской Федерации, Международного института медиации, швейцарской юридической фирмы «Secretan Troyanov Shaer». CIS Arbitration Forum оказывает информационную поддержку конкурса.

Команда победителей получила главный приз: 5 именных сертификатов на обучение юриспруденции в Гарвардском университете (Harvard University Law School). В 2017 году первое место заняла команда студентов из Московского государственного университета им. Кутафина. Также многие участники конкурса получили приглашения на стажировку в компании «ФБК Право» и в других юридических фирмах. Достижения команд и участников, победивших в остальных номинациях конкурса, были отмечены различными ценными призами, предоставленными организаторами и партнёрами.

Конкурс RSUJ Moot Court and Mediation Competition получил высокую оценку участников, арбитров и партнёров. В кратчайшие сроки было организовано и проведено уникальное мероприятие международного уровня, собравшее студентов из ведущих вузов России, Беларуси, Турции и Испании. RSUJ Moot Court and Mediation Competition – это успех не только Российского государственного университета правосудия и партнёров конкурса – это успех и признание России и российского юридического образования на международной арене.

Российский государственный университет правосудия стал первым университетом в России, который организовал и провёл студенческий международный конкурс по праву на английском языке.
