Experts will discuss the current trends and challenges in the field of international arbitration affecting the region. The list of speakers and reports is already on the conference website.

This arbitration event will take place in Moscow on 21 May in the Congress Centre of  the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. CIS Arbitration Forum is an information partner of the event.

The guests of the conference will hear opinions not only of well-known Russian arbitration experts but those of esteemed foreign specialists as well. E.g.: Jacomijn van Haersolte-van Hof, the General Director of the LCIA, will report on the new rules of that institution; Dr Maxi Scherer, special counsellor of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP (London), will speak about tendencies in favour of transparency in investment and commercial arbitration; and Professor Arthur Rovine from Fordham University (New York) will report on the regulatory powers of host states and the protection of investors.

“Quite often not all problems of international commercial arbitration get sufficient attention from the specialists. An attempt is made to identify them and take a closer look,” explains one of the conference moderators, Dr Anton Asoskov. “The organisers decided to refrain from discussing purely domestic Russian issues, of which most are well aware, instead focusing on the international experience”, adds the moderator of the first session, Alexander Muranov, managing partner of Muranov, Chernyakov & Partners.

The conference will cover three principal areas: modern trends and challenges in the field of international arbitration, investment arbitration and procedural issues in arbitration. The speakers will deal with such pressing issues as selection of the forum in light of the sanctions, consideration of disputes in Asian arbitration centres, international status of settlement agreements in the form of arbitral awards and many others. All reports to be presented at the conference have been selected in terms of their relevance, unique nature and depth of research.

Particular features of the conference include rigorous selection of reports and live broadcasting on the Internet. A volume with collected articles with the speakers’ reports and other materials will be published before the conference. “The aim consists in developing arbitration in the post-Soviet space. We would like to see more specialists on the Russian and the CIS markets who can ensure efficient protection of their domestic legal entities’ interests in international arbitration proceedings”, says Roman Khodykin, partner of the London office of Berwin Leighton Paisner.

In 2015, Russian Arbitration Day will take place already for the third time. Last year over 250 guests from various Russian cities as well as Great Britain, France, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Lithuania and other countries attended the conference.

Participation in the conference is free for everyone. You may follow the latest news about the Russian Arbitration Day— 2015 on Facebook.
